Why do I need a Chimney Cap?

Never underestimate the power of a quality chimney cap

We are proud installers of Hy-C and Gelco chimney caps. From aluminum to copper to stainless steel, we have a chimney cap for every situation. They provide 3 main functions:

- Keep water out

- Keep animals out

- Keep sparks in

With it being the first week of Spring, that means birds will soon be looking to nest. While we do work in cooperation with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources #ChimneySwiftWorkingProgram, enticing birds to nest in your chimney can pose a multitude of problems that you need to be aware of. Here are some big ones:

1) Nesting materials are flammable, which can lead to a chimney fire if you don't have your chimney cleaned yearly.

2) Birds lack the ability to fly straight up, so should they fall from the nest, they are in trouble.

3) Excrement can really pile up (gross, we know)... this usually lands on the fireplace's damper which can cause it to not fully open or even deteriorate.

April showers bring May leaks

The main benefit of a chimney cap, is that it aids in keeping precipitation outside where it belongs. This prolongs the life of the metal components of your fireplace, wood burning stove, or furnace. In addition, moisture in a chimney can linger for weeks or months and our freeze/thaw cycles can wreak havoc on chimneys with built up moisture. Cracked bricks, cracked clay liners, and interior mortar deterioration can all be eliminated with a chimney cap!
